OCC 2026 Concludes Successfully, Tongling Bionic Showcases Chinese IABP

From May 28 to 31, the 20th Oriental Congress of Cardiology (OCC 2026), hosted by the Shanghai Medical Association and the Society of Cardiology of the Shanghai Medical Association, was successfully held. Experts in the cardiovascular field from both China and abroad gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on topics such as heart failure, cardiovascular diseases, cardiac rehabilitation, and artificial intelligence. Together, they explored disciplinary development, tackled clinical challenges, and promoted technological translation.

In his address, Professor Ge Junbo stated that over the past two decades, the Oriental Congress has always adhered to the principles of "openness, innovation, and cooperation," evolving from a regional academic gathering into a cardiovascular academic platform with international influence. Twenty years mark a milestone and a new starting point. Facing the significant task of chronic disease prevention and the challenges of disciplinary innovation, the Oriental Congress will continue to embrace cutting-edge exploration and the new wave of artificial intelligence, showcasing Chinese experience, Chinese evidence, and Chinese solutions to the world.


The congress released the White Paper on the Progress of Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment in China, outlining the current status and future directions of heart failure management in the country. Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, and cardiogenic shock. They highlighted the critical value of mechanical circulatory support technologies—including the Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device (pVAD)—in treating critically ill cardiac patients, as well as the important role of Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) technology in the rehabilitation of pan-vascular diseases. These discussions showcased a full-cycle management concept from emergency care to rehabilitation.

 

During the congress, Tongling Bionic presented a Chinese solution for mechanical circulatory support—the TL-IABP-100 and the TL-IAB Balloon catheters. These represent China's first independently developed IABP system and balloon catheters, filling a domestic technological gap and achieving performance comparable to world-class standards.

 

The IABP primarily provides hemodynamic support for critically ill cardiac patients. By regularly inflating and deflating a balloon placed in the patient's descending aorta, it increases coronary artery perfusion and reduces cardiac afterload, thereby creating favorable conditions and buying precious time for definitive treatments (such as PCI).

 

The TL-IABP-100 features an efficient pneumatic system and intelligent software with built-in advanced algorithms, enabling precise counterpulsation and improving treatment success rates. The TL-IAB balloon catheters are manufactured with high-performance polyurethane and feature a cured hydrophilic coating, offering anti-fatigue, wear-resistant, and easy-to-insert characteristics. When used together, the system provides reliable hemodynamic support for patients.
